Howard Johnson

Howard Johnson

Howard Johnson properties are midscale, mid-priced hotels with product types ranging from large, full-service hotels to small, highway motels. The Howard Johnson Company was founded in 1925 by entrepreneur Howard Dearing Johnson, who opened the first Howard Johnson hotel in 1954 in Savannah, Georgia. All Howard Johnson properties offer a free continental breakfast and in-room, high-speed Internet access. Owned by Wyndham Hotel Group, Wyndham unveiled plans in September 2013 to revitalize the brand under its "Reinvigoration" project, a multi-year undertaking focused on elevating the overall guest experience by revitalizing all aspects of the brand—from property design and case goods to signature amenities and service. In April 2018, the "by Wyndham" moniker was added to the name.

Howard Johnson Facts & Statistics

As of year-end 2018, there were 338 Howard Johnson properties (42,181 rooms) worldwide. In 2018, the brand operated at an average RevPAR level of $31.58. The brand did not publish occupancy and average rate levels for 2018; however, RevPAR increased by just 0.4% in 2018, so it is likely the levels did not change substantially from the 2017 occupancy of 77.8% and average rate of $118.18.
